What is it about? Mulle is a Swedish casino game with two packs. Because every card exists twice, there is a special reward: taking a card with its exact twin (same rank, same suit) is a "mulle" and scores many points. Clearing the table makes a "tabbe".

10 of diamonds ("Storan")1016

3. Preparation and start

  1. Dealing: Everyone gets 8 cards and 8 cards lie face up on the table.
  2. Redealing: When all hand cards are played, new ones are dealt – until the stock is empty.
  3. Start: The player left of the dealer begins.

Start example: The 9 of hearts lies on the table. You also hold a 9 of hearts – you take it as a mulle.

4. Goal and winning

5. Play in detail

A turn.

  1. Play a hand card.
  2. Capture: It takes all table cards of the same value and all groups whose sum equals its value ("equal takes equal").
  3. Duty: If you can capture, you must capture – or build.
  4. Build: Put a card on a table card so that the sum equals a value you still hold. Later you take the build with that card.
  5. Discard: If you can neither capture nor build, place the card face up on the table.

Restrictions.

Example with Players 1 and 2. Two players.

  1. On the table: 9 of hearts, 4 of spades, 5 of clubs.
  2. Player 1 plays a 9 of hearts: he takes the 9 of hearts as a mulle (9 points) plus 4 + 5.
  3. The table is empty – a tabbe (1 point).
  4. Player 2 plays the 6 of spades and leaves it on the table.

9. Tips for beginners

  1. Look for twins: A table card whose twin you hold is a mulle.
  2. High mulles: An ace mulle scores 14 points.
  3. Protect scoring cards: Ace, 2 of spades and 10 of diamonds are worth more in hand.
  4. Build with a plan: Only build if you surely hold the card to take it.
  5. Prevent tabbes: Don't leave just one card on the table.
  6. Collect spades: Every spade counts.
  7. Keep count: Every card exists exactly twice.

10. Summary in 10 steps

  1. 104 cards, 8 cards each, 8 face up.
  2. Play a card.
  3. Take equal values and matching sums.
  4. Capturing is compulsory – or build.
  5. Build: take the sum later with a hand card.
  6. Otherwise discard.
  7. Mulle: take an identical card, card value as points.
  8. Tabbe: clear the table, 1 point.
  9. Spades 1, ace and 2 of spades 2 each, aces 1, 10 of diamonds 2.
  10. First to 100 points wins.

Origin & history

Mulle developed from Swedish building casino, which in turn goes back to the English game of Casino. It is played with two packs and is one of the most popular card games in Sweden. It takes its name from the “mulle” – capturing an identical card.
